Deliverables

Market research, user research, design concept planning, product management, structure study, display planning, and promotion planning

Professional Context

  • I worked for Hyundai Livart, one of the largest lifestyle furniture and interior service companies in South Korea, as part of a B2C product development team.
  • The work focused on dining furniture products that needed to balance consumer needs, reasonable pricing, trend direction, efficient engineering, and the business goals of both the company and partner manufacturers.

Design Context

  • Furniture development required close coordination across product planning, design, engineering, manufacturing, retail, display, and promotion.
  • Consumer needs were gathered through interviews, retail-store meetings, online reviews, and evaluation-show feedback, then translated into product concepts and refinements.

Design and Development Process

  • Led phases from market and user research to concept planning, design development, structure study, product management, display planning, and promotion planning.
  • Created open communication between internal departments and partner manufacturing companies so decisions around design, engineering, pricing, and production could move together.
  • Used consumer feedback before and after release to improve product quality, align with market expectations, and maintain the goals of each product line.

Product Outcome

  • Released five furniture products within one year while leading product design and merchandising direction.
  • Built a practical understanding of how consumer insight, cross-functional cooperation, and active communication shape stronger lifestyle products.

Key Insights

  • Good furniture products come from coordinating consumer value, manufacturing feasibility, price strategy, brand direction, and retail presentation.
  • Post-release feedback is part of product development, not a separate activity, because it helps maintain quality and improve fit with consumer needs.

Critical Constraints

  • Design decisions had to consider manufacturing constraints, partner-company capabilities, retail display conditions, and commercial viability at the same time.
  • The product process depended on communication across many stakeholders, so clarity and timing were as important as the design proposal itself.
